When
dialing ModemScan loops without dialing any numbers...
Ways to find out more information about the
responding modem...
1. Try using HyperTerminal (available with MS Windows) to dial the number
in question. HyperTerminal will auto-negotiate the type of emulation
used with the responding modem and may yield more readable text results in the
banner, instead of the non-readable ASCII characters.
2. Once you have a string of readable text from the modem banner, one way to track down the type of device, if it's not already apparent, is to
enter the string into Google or other Internet search engine. This
usually will yield links to more information about that particular device.
3. Lastly go to the person(s) responsible for telephone number management
and/or the telephone company; have them track down where the physical
telephone port is and what it is connected to.
Yes. Please see the ModemScan Help file for
instructions on how to configure ModemScan to locate Fax tones. Please note,
While in this mode, your modem will only "connect" to FAX machines. You will
need to undo this modification and run another scan if you plan on also
scanning for regular modem data connections.

country codes.
We recommend using ModemScan with an internal 56K modem that supports both
the Flex and X2 standards.
Note: US Robotic modems sometimes connect on both FAX and
Data connections, when they are only supposed connect on either or.
However, this abnormality does not happen reliably nor predictably.
Multi-modem boards: Any multi-modem board should work with
ModemScan, provided that each modem is separately identified by Windows in the
"Modems" area of the Control Panel.
Yes & No: Yes, in some states there are explicit
laws that say it is illegal. However, this is a gray area. We believe, if you
or your organization owns the blocks of numbers that are being dialed and you
are authorized by your organization to perform this security check, then we
feel you are within your legal rights.
Uninstall and then reinstall ModemScan
