Sample Warning Login/Logon Security Banner

WARNING: It is a criminal offence to:

i. Obtain access to data without authority

ii. Damage, delete, alter or insert data without authority

You are not authorized to access this system unless you have signed our Terms of Use Agreement. If you have not signed our Terms of Use Agreement your access is unauthorized and you must exit this system immediately.

Access to this system is monitored 24 hours a day. Unauthorized use of this system will result in prosecution to the fullest extent of all applicable laws.

All dial-in modems in your organization should ...

... have a banner, warning that access to the system is monitored 24 hours a day and unauthorized users will be prosecuted to fullest extent of the law.

... require a user name and/or strong password to gain entry to the system.

... not give away important information in the banner, such as the type or version of the responding system.

... allow only 3 or less attempts to gain entry to the system before disconnecting the modem.

... be periodically audited to ensure they are authorized and employees have not added their own unsecured access into the network for "work at home" or other purposes.
